Box Score NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions baseball team took care of business on the road with an 11-6 victory over Stephen F. Austin in non-conference action at the Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium.
After trailing by one run in the first inning, the Golden Lions poured in three runs in both the second and sixth inning.
Nick Kreutzer started things off with a solo home run to center field. Not to be outdone,
Ricardo Sanchez matched Kreutzer with a home run of his own (to right field), bringing in
Jacob Columbo.
Sergio Esparza then produced a RBI single that scored
Ryan Mallison.
In the fifth, Sanchez took a base on balls with the bases loaded, scoring
Jarficur Parker. Prior to that play, Parker produced a RBI double that brought in Mallison.
In the sixth, Parker generated a RBI single that allowed
Austin Toth to touch home plate. Later in the inning,
JP Soriano advanced to second on a balk which brought in Parker for another run. Esparza then brought in Soriano with a RBI single to left center.
UAPB pitcher
Cody Holmes picked up his first victory of the season as he fanned two batters, gave up three earned runs and six hits in five innings of action while teammate
Nathan Sawrie picked up his first save of the year. In four innings of work, Sawrie struck out two batters and gave up one run and three hits.
As a team UAPB produced 14 hits and gave up a total of nine to its opponent. The Golden Lions committed two errors while Stephen F. Austin generated one error for the game. Mallison and Parker both finished 2-for-4 from the plate with two runs each. Parker added two RBI in the victory. Fellow Golden Lion Toth finished with 2-for-4 from the plate with one run scored.
UAPB (13-16, 9-7 SWAC) returns to action on Wednesday, April 18 as they face Baylor University in non-conference action to round out its Texas road trip. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. at the Baylor Ballpark.
