Lady Lions sneak into SWAC tourney with huge 79-64 victory over Mississippi Valley on Senior Night

Box Score PINE BLUFF, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Lady Lions took care of business at home in yet another must-win situation with a 79-64 victory over Mississippi Valley State University at H.O. Clemmons Arena on Senior Night in the regular season finale. UAPB finishes tied for seventh overall in the Southwestern Athletic Conference regular season standings and enters the tournament as the eight seed and will face the top seed Southern University on Tuesday night at 5:30 p.m. at the F.G. Clark Activity Center in the quarterfinal round of the 2018 SWAC Women's Basketball Tournament. UAPB enters the tournament on a two-game win streak with must-wins over Jackson State and Mississippi Valley. On January 13, Southern defeated UAPB 71-52 at H.O. Clemmons Arena and on February 10, Southern won 59-46 at the F.G. Clark Activity Center.
 
UAPB (8-20, 6-12 SWAC) was led by senior Faith Ohanta who finished with a double-double and scored 18 points to go along with 13 boards. She shot 6-of-8 from the field and made 6-of-8 free throws. Senior Malaik Muhammad finished with 14 points and made all eight of her free throws while teammate Shawntayla Harris scored 13 points, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked four shots in the win.

Mississippi Valley (2-28, 2-16 SWAC) was led by Desiray Mosley who finished with a team-high 16 points, four steals and three assists in the loss.

As a team the Lady Lions won the rebound battle 58-29 and shot 48 percent from the field while holding its opponent to 30 percent shooting. UAPB clamped down on the defensive end and outscored Mississippi Valley 26-9 in the third quarter.

The Lady Lions missed a total of just five free throws all night.
