Box Score PINE BLUFF, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Lady Lions basketball team picked up a much needed victory in Southwestern Athletic Conference play as it defeated Alabama A&M 57-48 at H.O. Clemmons Arena. The win snaps an eight-game losing streak and puts UAPB on the right track to make a late push in the season.
UAPB was led by point guard
Destiny Brewton who finished with a game-high 14 points on 4-of-8 shooting from the field. She also grabbed five boards, produced two steals, two assists and hit 6-of-10 free throws in 31 minutes while teammate
Faith Ohanta scored 12 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out two assists. Freshman Trasity (pronounced TROH-sity) Totten came off the bench and chipped in with eight points, five rebounds, two steals and shot a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe.
The Lady Lions (4-16, 2-8 SWAC) led by just three points at the break but turned it on in the second half and outscored the Lady Bulldogs 16-11 in the third quarter. UAPB's defense proved to be the difference in the game as it held its opponent to just 29 percent shooting from the field (18-for-63) while shooting nearly forty percent (18-for-46). As a team UAPB lost the rebound battle 43-36 but shot twice as many free throws (28) as Alabama A&M (11). 19 made free throws kept the Lady Lions ahead down the stretch.
DeShawna Harper led the way for the Lady Bulldogs (8-13, 2-7 SWAC) with a team-high 12 points and four rebounds.
Sophomore
Katherine Darden chipped in with six points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists for the Lady Lions who improve to 2-8 in conference play.

UAPB returns to action on Monday, February 6 as it hosts Alabama State in SWAC play. Tip-off is set for 5:30 at H.O. Clemmons Arena. On January 6, Alabama State won the first meeting between these two teams 63-54 in Montgomery, Alabama.
