Box Score JACKSON, Miss. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Lady Lions trailed by as many as 14 points on the road and seemed to face elimination from any thought of a Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament appearance with a loss, but in the second half of the game, and with its back truly against the wall, somehow managed to hold its opponent to just seven third quarter points then poured on 26 fourth quarter points of its own on its way to a 66-60 important conference victory over Jackson State University at the Lee E. Williams Athletic and Assembly Center. With one game remaining in the regular season for UAPB, the win keeps hope alive to land a spot in the top eight and brings the Lady Lions within one game of Alabama A&M who sits in the eighth spot but is currently on a three-game skid.

UAPB (7-20, 5-12 SWAC) trailed 37-24 at the half and looked like it was down and out, but found its rejuvenation after halftime adjustments in the locker room. The Lady Lions focused, clamped down on the defensive end, and only gave up seven points the entire quarter to the Lady Tigers. As a matter of fact, UAPB seemed to play much better with its back against the wall as it tied a season-high with 26 fourth quarter points, outscoring Jackson State 42-23 in the most important part of the game; the second half, taking a page out of the Golden Lions' book who earlier this school year scored 18 unanswered points on the road, including 11 in the fourth quarter to defeat Jackson State in football 34-27 in overtime at the W.C. Gorden Classic.

The Lady Lions basketball team was led by senior post-player Faith Ohanta, who continued to show her dominance with yet another double-double (11th of the season) as she finished with 22 points and 13 boards while teammate and senior point guard Destiny Brewton scored 11 points, dished out seven assists, had two steals and grabbed two rebounds in the win. Brewton was sensation from the foul line, hitting 11-of-12 free throws, including several key ones down the stretch to help ice the game.

Post-player Shawntayla Harris was big on the defensive end and added nine points, seven rebounds, and three blocks while fellow Lady Lion and freshman post-player Shania Hatter nearly finished with a double-double, scoring nine points and grabbing 11 boards for UAPB, who has won the last two out three games and put itself in prime position to sneak into the tournament and make some noise.

UAPB won the rebound battle 50-44 and scored 24 second chance points compared to just nine from Jackson State. As a team UAPB shot 31 percent from the field (19-of-62) while allowing the Lady Tigers to shoot 35 percent (21-of-60). Despite hitting just 2-of-20 (10 percent) from beyond the arc, UAPB made 26-of-37 free throws (70 percent) while its opponent made 15-of-24 (63 percent).

The Lady Lions scored 20 points off of 23 Jackson State turnovers, but committed 18 turnovers itself.

Jackson State (13-12, 8-8 SWAC) was led by Derica Wiggins Christina Ellis who both scored 13 points apiece.

UAPB returns to action on Saturday, March 3 as it hosts Mississippi Valley State University for Senior Night. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. at H.O. Clemmons Arena. Fans are encouraged to wear white for the whiteout. On New Year's Day, UAPB picked up its first conference win of the season with a 64-59 victory over Valley in Mississippi.
