Box Score NEW ORLEANS, La. - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions defeated Alabama State 8-5 in the Andre Dawson Classic at Maestri Field in New Orleans.

Alabama State took an early three run lead in the opening inning but the Golden Lions came roaring back to score four in the second off of a Jarficur Parker RBI that brought in Cutter McDonald. Ryan Mallison then picked up an RBI with a line drive to right field that brought in Nick Kreutzer. Jacob Columbo then doubled to left-center which brought in Mallison and before the inning was over, Sergio Esparza crossed home plate.

UAPB scored another run in the fourth inning thanks to an Esparza single to center field which brought in JP Soriano, and another run in the sixth off of a wild pitch as Austin Toth quicky scampered across home plate.

Columbo later put the game away in the sixth inning with a 2-run home run to left field.

As a team the Golden Lions (2-1) produced 10 hits as its opponent finished with nine.

Thomas Sanchez (1-0) was credited with the victory while Dalton Wilder got the loss.

UAPB returns to action on Tuesday, February 20 as it travels to Kansas to face the University of Kansas. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Hoglund Ballpark.
