Box Score LORMAN, Miss. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Lady Lions opened the game clicking on all cylinders and trailed by just one point after one quarter of play but Alcorn State used a 23-13 run in the second quarter and another 10-point run in the final quarter en route to a 76-58 victory in Southwestern Athletic Conference play at the Davey L. Whitney Complex.
UAPB (5-18, 3-10 SWAC) was led by sharpshooter Malaik Muhammad who finished with a team-high 17 points on 5-of-12 shooting from the field. She also hit three 3-pointers in the loss to go along with four steals, three assists and two boards while fellow Lady Lion
Faith Ohanta finished with seven points and a team-high 13 rebounds but made just one basket from the field.
As a team UAPB shot 34 percent from the field while its opponents shot 42 percent. The Lady Lions struggled from downtown and made just 3-of-14 three-pointers (21 percent) but dominated the glass and won the rebound battle 50-35. However, turnovers once again haunted Lady Lions as they committed a total of 28 versus just 10 for Alcorn.
The Lady Braves (10-14, 6-7 SWAC) were led by Alexus Freeman who finished with a game-high 22 points, five assists, four boards and two steals while teammate Miracle Rushing finished with a game-high 16 rebounds and chipped in with nine points in the win.
UAPB returns to action on Saturday, February 17 as it hosts Prairie View A&M in SWAC play. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. On January 20, Prairie View A&M won the first meeting between these two teams 64-52 in Texas.
