Golden Lions Keep Things Close But Fall To Troy In Non-Conference Finale 71-63

Troy, Ala. - Senior Martaveous McKnight scored a team-high 22 points and junior Shaun Doss added 10 points as the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men's basketball team  fell to Troy Trojans, 71-63, to wrap up non-conference play.

This was the third career meeting between the two teams and the final non-conference game before both ball clubs start conference play.   

The Golden Lions and Trojans traded baskets for most of the first half, but a late score by the Trojans with two seconds remaining tied the game at 37-37 heading into the locker room. 

Despite taking the loss, the Golden Lions had their largest lead of the game 47-38, in the first four minutes of the second half.

·       Martaveous McKnight scored in double figures in six straight games
·       Terrance Banyard led the team in rebounds with six.
·       The Golden Lions led the whole second half until the seventh minute mark
·       The difference of the game, Troy scored 22 points vs UAPB 12 points from the bench.
·       As of this weekend game, McKnight is rank 12th in the nation in scoring with an average 23.5 points per game
 
The Golden Lions open SWAC League play Saturday, Jan. 5 at home versus Mississippi Valley in Church and Community appreciation night. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 P.M. after the women's matchup at 5:00 P.M.
