UAPB volleyball setter Sahlmann sets school record in assists

Lady Lions VB team battles through tough SWAC road trip

HOUSTON, Texas - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's volleyball team recently competed in a three-game Southwestern Athletic Conference road trip in hopes to land a spot in this month's SWAC Volleyball Tournament.

-Junior outside hitter Kendalle Howard finished with a game-high 13 kills and added nine digs 
-Junior setter Britney Sahlmann produced a game-high 27 assists and chipped in with six digs
-Freshman middle blocker Charis Adefolarin produced five kills and six blocks 
-Freshman middle blocker Kaylyn Brown produced four blocks
-Freshman middle blocker Haley Gomez had nine kills, nine digs and four blocks

-Kendalle Howard tied a game-high with 16 kills and also had a game-high 25 digs
-Britney Sahlmann had a game-high 42 assists and added 12 digs
-Sahlmann became the all-time leader in assists at UAPB as she surpassed Jordan Foyer (2013-15) who had 2,104 assists
-Charis Adefolarin produced seven kills and two blocks
-Kaylyn Brown added four kills, three blocks and one dig
-Haley Gomez finished with 14 kills, nine digs and five blocks

"We were in control of every set and we could not close them out," said UAPB Head Coach Dustin Sahlmann. "We were not good enough as a team. However; this was the best we have ever played against TSU in Houston so it was disappointed to let it slip away like that. On a positive note, Britney broke the school career assist record. As her coach, that was great to see her achieve that mark because she has worked so hard and endured a lot to make that happen." said Coach Sahlmann. "She has always put the team first so it is great to see her get rewarded for all of that time and effort. Being her father, I am super proud of the type of leader that she is for her team. She is a great young lady and it has been awesome to watch her grow."

UAPB (8-20, 6-11 SWAC) returns to action on Thursday, November 8 as it hosts Grambling State University on for senior day. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m. at the Pine Bluff Convention Center. The senior day ceremony will start shortly after 6 p.m.
