Southern defeats UAPB 56-24 in Baton Rouge

Golden Lions suffer 8th straight loss

BATON ROUGE, La. - Arkansas-Pine Bluff suffered a 56-24 loss against Southern University in Southwestern Athletic Conference action. The game marks the eight straight loss for the Golden Lions football team.

Game Notes

-UAPB's first play from scrimmage resulted in an interception throw from freshman quarterback Skyler Perry
-Southern led 21-6 at the end of the first quarter
-Late in the first quarter, freshman wide receiver DeJuan Miller caught a touchdown pass from Skyler Perry for UAPB's first score of the day
-Perry completed 18-of-26 passes for 119 yards with one touchdown pass and one interception and was sacked twice
-UAPB running back Jaimon Peterson rushed 21 times for 82 yards and scored a rushing touchdown
-UAPB running back Tryvarious Cole rushed 13 times for 61 yards and also scored a rushing touchdown
-Golden Lions wide out Tyrin Ralph led all UAPB receivers with five catches for 40 yards
-Senior linebacker Je'Kevin Carter produced a game-high 14 tackles and one sack
-In the second quarter, Stats FCS Preseason All-America punter Jamie Gillan connected on a 28 yard field goal to cap a nine play, 60 yard drive
-Southern quarterback and Pine Bluff native LaDarious Skelton completed 12-of-15 passes for 283 yards to go along with four passing touchdowns and was sacked twice (did not play the entire second half)
-The loss was the eighth in a row for the Golden Lions
-UAPB junior running back Taeyler Porter, who entered the game as the SWAC's leading rusher, did not play vs. Southern


UAPB (1-9, 0-6 SWAC) returns to action on Saturday, November 17 as it travels to Texas for the final game of the year against Texas Southern University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston.
