Lady Lions fall 64-52 to Prairie View A&M in Texas

Box Score PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Lady Lions failed to secure a key Southwestern Athletic Conference road victory as it fell 64-52 to Prairie View A&M University inside of William J. Nicks Building. The loss drops UAPB to 1-5 in SWAC play and 3-13 overall.

The Lady Lions and Lady Panthers kept the game close after one quarter of play, but in the second quarter Prairie View outscored UAPB by nine points to lead 30-19 at the break. Senior post-player Faith Ohanta came off the bench to score 18 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the field and grabbed 14 boards, both game highs. Point guard Destiny Brewton struggled from the field (3-for-9) but nailed 6-of-8 free throws and finished with 12 points, three rebounds and three assists in 30 minutes.

In the third quarter, UAPB (3-13, 1-5 SWAC) was able to trim Prairie View's lead to eight points before the Lady Panthers sealed the deal in the final stretch.

As a team the Lady Lions shot 36 percent and scored 32 bench points while its opponent shot 35 percent and scored 30 off the bench. UAPB won the rebound battle 49-43 over the Lady Panthers, who advance to 3-3 in SWAC play and 5-12 overall. Talisha Presley led Prairie View with 17 points while teammate Kendra Hicks finished with a double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in the win.

UAPB returns to action on Monday, January 22 as it continues SWAC play against Texas Southern University. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. in Houston.
