Box Score Tampa, Fla. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff volleyball team could not recover from a slow start and fell to SEC foe LSU, 3-0, at the University of South Florida Invitational in the Sun Dome on Friday evening.
LSU (1-0) won the first two sets, 25-10 and 25-9, and then claimed the third, 25-10.
Freshman Taylor Sheppy paced UAPB's attack with three kills, followed by sophomore Britney Sahlmann with six assists. On the defensive side, it was sophomore Kendalle Howard leading the way with seven digs as senior Lauren Corby posted two blocks.
In addition, Freshman Terin Nalls made her collegiate appearance and accumulated two blocks during the matchup.
UAPB (0-1) came out strong in the third set building a 5-3 lead. In the first frame, the Tigers did not let the Lady Lions get any closer than one (3-2) en route to a 25-10 win. Meanwhile, in the second set UAPB fought back to within seven at (11-4) before LSU earned a 25-9 victory.
In the final frame, UAPB took the lead (5-3) for the first time in the match with Taylor Smart forcing LSU Taylor Bannister to commit two consecutive attack errors, before a 6-0 run turned the set into LSU's favor. However, the Lady Lions fought back to make it 10-8 behind two consecutive kills from Howard and Sheppy. The Tigers built a 16-8 lead and went on to close the match with a 25-10 win.
The Lady Lions look to start up play Saturday Aug. 26, against South Florida at 1:00 p.m., followed by Northwestern University at 5:00 p.m.
