Box Score PINE BLUFF, Ark. (April 28) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Baseball team split a doubleheader with Prairie View A&M with the Golden Lions defeating the Panthers, 10-5 in game one and with PVAMU defeating UAPB, 9-4 in game two, here Friday afternoon at the Torii Hunter Baseball, Softball and Little League Complex.
In game one, UAPB finished with 12 hits, whereas PVAMU recorded seven.
Both
Aderly Perez finished with three hits each to lead the Golden Lions from the plate, while Cody Den Beste finished with three to lead the Panthers.
Tyrus Lopez picked up the win for the Golden Lions. He pitched four and one-third innings, allowing five hits and striking out one in the four and one-third inning of relief.
Billy Olson the UAPB starter pitched four and two-third innings, allowing two hits, two earned runs and striking out four in 17 inning of work.
Darrien Wilson took the lost for PVAMU. He gave up nine hits, six earned runs and struck out five in five and one-third inning of work.
PVAMU scored the first run of the contest to take a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning with Avery Williams scoring on a Den Beste single.
UAPB scored four runs in the bottom of the first to take 4-1 with both
Jordan Knox and
Jerimiah Figueroa scoring on a Perez double to leftfield. Then Perez would then score on a
Corey Henderson two-run homer.
The Golden Lions added to their leads in the bottom of the fourth inning with
Julian Jones scoring on a
Jaquese Moore ground out, followed a Figueroa triple scoring
Jaylen Jackson to give UAPB a 6-1 advantage over PVAMU.
PVAMU plated another run in the top of the fifth inning to cut UAPB's lead to 6-2.
Perez added to UAPB's lead in the bottom of the fifth inning with him stealing home to make the score 7-2 in favor of the Golden Lions.
The Panthers would then push across three runs in the top of the sixth inning to cut the Golden Lions' lead to 7-5.
UAPB plated three more run in the bottom of the seventh inning for the 10-5 final.
In game two, UAPB punched out five hits, whereas PVAMU tallied 11.
Sergio Esparza finished with team high two hits lead the Golden Lions from the plate, while Den Beste finished with three hits to lead the Panthers.
Edgar Sanchez (4-3) received the win for the Panthers. He gave up five hits, two earned runs and struck out four in nine innings of work.
Kenny Hinton (2-1) took the loss for the Golden Lions. He gave up seven hits, nine earned runs and struck out four in three and two-third innings of work.
PVAMU took a 9-0 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning with the Panthers plating one run in the first, two runs in the third and six in the fourth.
UAPB scored their only runs of the contest in their half of the fifth inning with Knox scoring on a Jackson sacrifice fly to right field, followed by Giron three-run homer for the 9-4 final.
