TEXAS SOUTHERN OUTLASTS UAPB, 9-5 IN EXTRA INNINGS

Box Score PINE BLUFF, Ark. (April 22) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Baseball team dropped a 9-5 heartbreaker to Texas Southern in 12 innings, here Saturday afternoon at the Torii Hunter Baseball, Softball and Little League Complex.
 
UAPB finished the contest with nine hits, whereas TSU finished with 12.
 
The Golden Lions had nine players to finish with one hit apiece, while Gaudenico Lucca finished with three hits to lead the Tigers.
 
Michael Villanueva (7-2) picked up the win for the Tigers.  He gave up three hits, two earned runs and struck five in four innings of relief.  Darius Boykins the TSU starter gave up six hits, two earned runs and struck out three in six and one-third innings of work.
 
Tyrus Lopez (4-4) received the loss for the Golden Lions. In his outing on the mound, he gave up two hits and two earn runs in two-third inning of relief.  Thomas Sanchez the UAPB starter worked two innings, allowing five hits, five earned runs and striking out four in the 16 batters he faced.
 
TSU jumped out to a 5-0 lead with the Tigers plating five runs in their half of the second inning.
 
UAPB then slowly chipped away at the TSU lead.
 
The Golden Lions plated a run in the bottom of the second inning with Jordan Knox scoring on a Corey Henderson single to left field.  Then Knox scored his second run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning on a Bradley Lopez fielder's choice.  UAPB scored its third run of the game on Sergio Esparza single scoring Lopez.
 
UAPB tied the contest in the bottom of the ninth inning with both Jaquese Moore and Esparza scoring on an Aderly Perez double to left field.
 
TSU would hold to win the contest 9-5 with the Tigers plating four runs in their half of the 12th inning for the 9-5 finale.
