UAPB Takes Both Ends of a Doubleheader Versus Alabama A&M

Golden Lions Takes Both Ends of a Doubleheader Versus Alabama A&M
Box Score Huntsville, Ala. -   The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff baseball team took both ends of a doubleheader against Alabama A&M on Saturday afternoon in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) action at Bulldogs Baseball Field. The Golden Lions (10-23, 7-8 SWAC), while the Bulldogs (8-29, 5-10 SWAC) dropped their second consecutive series of the season.

In game one, UAPB rallied in the top of the 10th inning on Saturday to cap a 5-4 comeback win to take game one.  Facing a 4-4 tie game, after being down 3-0 in the bottom of the 4th, the rally surge for Golden Lions, started off with a single to center field by Serg Esparza.  Esparza stole second and advanced to third on an error by the catcher with two outs.  Designated Hitter Juan Soriano, stepped up to the plate and blasted a single to center field scoring Esparza for the game-winning run.

Right hander Kenny Hinton started a good game and pitched 5.1 IP, registered five strikeouts, gave up three earn runs.  Tyrus Lopez was credited with the win and moved to (2-4) on the season after allowing no runs on one hit in 4.2 IP and five strikeouts.

Brandon Marsoneck took the loss for the Bulldogs (1-6), giving up four hits and one run.  Joshua Williams led the way for the Golden Lions at the plate, going 2-of-2, scoring two RBI's, Serg Esparza going 2-of-5, scoring two runs, Jaquese Moore and Aderly Perez, both finished with two hits apiece.
 
Game Two
Sophomore RHP Thomas Sanchez and junior RHP Matt Shindlebower combined to allow just one run on four hits to lead the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff baseball team to a 4-1 victory over Alabama A&M Bulldogs in an Southwestern Athletic Conference non-conference game on Saturday afternoon at Bulldog Baseball Field.

The Golden Lions (11-23, 7-8 SWAC) pair also combined to strike out three Bulldogs (8-30, 5-10 SWAC) in the victory. Shindlebower went 4.0 innings and allowed no runs and one hit to pick up his second win of the season. Sanchez tossed the first 3.0 innings and allowed three hits, one earned run to slow down the Bulldogs.

The turning point of the game struck when UAPB was down 1-0, after 4 innings and took the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the 5th inning and scoring one run in the 6th and 7th inning.  Junior Serg Esparza, senior Jaquese Moore and Aderly Perez had RBI hits in the game.

Offensively, junior Bax Logan collected two hits going 2-of-2 at the plate, follow by Serg Esparza banged out two hits going 2-of-4.  Jerimiah Figueroa, Jaques Moore and Dontrell Brown each finished with one hit apiece.

UAPB will close out the three-game non-conference match vs the Bulldogs Sunday April 16, 2017 at 1:00 pm.
