Box Score PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (March 25) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Baseball team held off a Prairie View A&M late innings rally for a 7-6 win, here Saturday afternoon at Tankersley Field.
UAPB finished the contest with eight hits, whereas PVAMU finished with six.
The Golden Lions was led by both
Jaquese Moore and
Joshua Williams with hits apiece, while both Avery Williams and Steven Williams finished two hits apiece to lead PVAMU.
Jake Water got the win and
Kenny Hinton got the save for the Golden Lions in the contest. Waters gave up one hit and struck out two in three and one-third innings of work, while Hinton pitched one scoreless inning and struck out one in the two batters he faced.
UAPB jumped out to a 5-0 lead with the Golden Lions scoring two runs in their half of the third and three in their half of the fifth. In the top of the third,
Jordan Knox scored on a wild pitch and Moore would then score on a Williams single to the first baseman. Williams would drive Knox again in the fifth, followed by Moore stealing home and Williams scoring on a PVAMU fielding error.
In their half of the fifth PVAMU would plated four runs to cut Panthers' lead to 5-4
UAPB pushed across two runs in the top of the sixth inning to increase their lead to 7-4 with
Jaylen Jackson scoring on a Williams bases loaded hit-by-pitch. Then Moore would score his third run of the game on a
Sergio Esparza fielder's choice.
PVAMU would plate two more runs in the bottom of the eighth for the 7-6 final.
