UAPB HAS TWO BIG INNINGS IN 11-8 LOSS TO MISSISSIPPI STATE

Box Score STARKVILLE, Miss. (March 14) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Baseball team ninth inning heroics came up short in an 11-8 defeat to Mississippi State, here Tuesday afternoon at Dudy Noble Field.
 
UAPB finished the contest with 10 hits, whereas MSU tallied 12.
 
Jordan Knox finished the contest with three hits in five at-bats, scoring one run and driving in three runs to lead the Golden Lions.
 
MSU was led by Brent Rooker with three hits in five at-bats, scoring one run and driving one run.
 
Jake Mangum (1-0) received the win for the Bulldogs.  He pitched three scoreless innings and striking out five in the nine batters he faced.  Spencer Price (4) got the save for MSU.  He faced one batter in one-third inning pitched.
 
Antoine Luster (1-2) received the loss for the UAPB.  He pitched two innings, allowing six hits, four earned runs and striking out three in the 17 batters he faced.  Chris Phelps also took to the mound for UAPB.  He pitched six innings in relief, allowing six hits, two earned runs and striking out three in the 26 batters he faced.
 
MSU took a 9-0 lead into the fourth inning with the Bulldogs plating four runs in their half of the first, three in the second and two in the third.
 
UAPB cut MSU's lead to 9-4 with the Golden Lions plating four in their half of the fourth inning.   The Golden Lions scored their first run of the inning with Jerimiah Figueroa scoring on a passed ball.  Then both Sergio Esparza and Jaquese Moore would score on a Knox double to right center.    Know would then score on a MSU error.
 
MSU increased their lead to 11-4 with the Bulldogs plating one run in the fourth and one in the sixth inning.
 
UAPB plated four runs in the top of the ninth inning with both Figueroa and Dontrell Brown scoring on a Moore triple.  Then both Moore and Esparza would score on a MSU throwing error for the 11-8 final.
