BIG FOURTH INNING PROPELS UAPB PAST ALABAMA FOR 8-3 GAME ONE WIN
Box Score TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (March 12) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Baseball team split a doubleheader with the University of Alabama with the Golden Lions winning game one, 8-3 and the Tide defeating UAPB, 12-2 in game two, here Sunday afternoon at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
 
In game one, UAPB finished the contest with 12 hits, while UA finished with five.
 
Jerimiah Figueroa led the Golden Lions from the plate.  He recorded three hits in four at-bats, scoring one and driving in two on the day. 
 
UA was led by Cobie Vance with two hits in three at-bats, scoring two runs and recording one RBI.
 
Nathan Sawrie (1-2) received the win for UAPB.  He gave up five hits, three earned runs and struck out two in nine innings of work.
 
Brock Love (1-2) received the loss for UA.  He toed the rubber for three innings, allowing six hits, five earned runs and striking out three in the 16 batters he faced.
 
UA jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with Chandler Avant scoring on a Vance ground to shortstop.
 
The Golden Lions tied the contest at 1-1 in the top of the third inning with Jordan Knox scoring on a Corey Henderson double down the right field line.
 
UAPB would take a 7-1 lead with a six-run fourth inning.   The Golden Lions would record two home runs in the inning with a two-run blasts by both Joshua Williams and Dontrell Brown.  Then Jaquese Moore would then score on a Figueroa double down the left field line.  Figueroa would then score on a Sergio Esparza fielder's choice for the final run of the inning.
 
UA cut UAPB's lead to 7-2 in their half of the seventh inning on a Chandler Taylor single scoring Vance.
 
The Golden Lions added to their lead in the top of the eighth inning with Aderly Perez scoring on Figueroa single to center field. 
 
UA plated one more run in the bottom of the ninth inning for the 8-3 finale.
 
In game two, UAPB finished the contest with two hits, whereas UA recorded 15.
 
Jordan Knox and Williams finished with a hit apiece to lead the Golden Lions.
 
UA was led by Hunter Alexander with three hits and one RBI.
 
Dylan Duarte (1-0) received the win for UA.  He pitched scoring innings, allowing just one hit and striking out eight in the 18 batters he faced.

Tyrus Lopez (1-3) received the loss for UAPB.  He gave up three earned runs, six hits and striking out one in the three and one-third innings of work.
 
UA took an 11-0 lead into the seventh inning with the Tide plating one run in their half of the first, one  in the second and three in the third, fifth and sixth innings of play.
 
UAPB plated two runs in their half of the seventh inning with Knox scoring on a Perez fielder's choice and Esparza scoring on a Williams single to centerfield, cutting UA's lead to 11-2.
 
The Tide plated one more run in the bottom of the seventh inning for the 12-2 finale.
