Box Score UNION CITY, Tenn. (Feb. 24) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Baseball team's ninth inning rally fell short in a 10-8 loss to the University of Tennessee-Martin, here Friday night at Elam Stadium.
UTM finished the contest with eight hits, while UAPB tallied eight.
The Golden Lions was led by
Sergio Esparza with three hits and
Aderly Perez with two, while Robert Worley finished with three hits to lead the Skyhawks.
The Skyhawks sent three pitchers to the mound in the contest. Dom Bazzani (1-1) the UTM starter received the win for the Skyhawks. He toed the rubbed for five innings, allowing five hits, and three earned runs and striking out eight in the 25 batters he faced. Shane Seckinger pitched three innings in relief for the Skyhawks, allowing one hit, two earned runs and striking out four in the 14 batters he faced. Alex Evans in his one inning on the mound, he faced five batters, allowing two hits, one earned runs and striking out two.
UAPB used two pitchers in the contest.
Nathan Sawrie (0-2) received the loss for the Golden Lions, allowing eight hits, six earned runs and striking out three in four and two-third innings of work. Jake Water in his three and one-third innings of work gave up two hits, one earned runs and striking out two.
The Golden Lions plated two runs in their half of the first inning to take a 2-0 with both Esparza and Juan Soriano scoring on an UTM fielding error.
UTM cut UAPB's lead to 2-1 in their half of the first inning with Tyler Albright scoring on a Tanner Wessling single to right field.
UAPB plated two more runs in the top of the third inning to take a 4-1 lead on a Perez two-run homer to left field.
UTM would then score four runs in their half of the third and fourth inning to take a 9-4 lead.
Both teams scored one run each in their half of the fifth inning with UAPB scoring on a
Jacob Giron sacrifice fly scoring Perez. UTM scored their run in the inning on a Worley double to right field scoring Keylen Steen, giving the Skyhawks a 10-5 lead over the Golden Lions.
UAPB plated three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning on a Jeremiah Figueroa bases clearing double to left centerfield scoring Perez, Soriano and Esparza for the 10-8 final.
