Box Score Pine Bluff, Ark. - In its season opener, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Lady Lions took care of business against Tougaloo College with a 71-51 victory at H.O. Clemmons Arena. Preseason Second-Team All-SWAC player Shawntayla Harris led the way with 12 points and eight rebounds while teammate Malik Muhammad also scored 12 points and grabbed two boards in the victory.
The Lady Lions got off to a slow start as Tougaloo took a 13-12 lead at the end of the first quarter. Much did not change in the second quarter as UAPB tied things up at 25 apiece at halftime. However, in the third and fourth quarter, the Lady Lions dusted off the offseason cobwebs and outscored the Lady Bulldogs by 10 points in each quarter, pouring in a whopping 26 points (9-for-18 from the field) in the final quarter. As a team the Lady Lions shot 38 percent while its opponent shot just 33 percent.
Faith Ohanta finished the game with 11 points and six boards while point guard
Destiny Brewton finished with five points and six assists. Tougaloo powerhouse post player Montoria Atkinson was held to 3-of-15 shooting from the field but finished with a double double, scoring 11 points and grabbing a game-high 16 boards in the loss.
The Lady Lions return to action on Thursday, November 16 as it hosts fellow Arkansas HBCU Philander Smith College at H.O. Clemmons Arena. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
