Box Score (Pine Bluff, Ark.) The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff got off to a hot start in the comfort of its own home, taking a 14-0 lead in the first quarter thanks to touchdown runs from
KeShawn Williams (24 yards) and
Dante McDonald, (three yards) but it wasn't enough as Mississippi Valley State University stormed back to score five touchdowns en route to a 38-31 comeback victory at Golden Lion Stadium in Southwestern Athletic Conference action in front of a crowd of 4,030.
UAPB had nearly 300 yards on the ground and got a much needed spark from Williams who missed last week's action, but as a team the Golden Lions piled up nearly 150 yards in penalties. Williams finished the contest with a game-high 147 yards and scored two touchdowns for UAPB (2-4, 1-2 SWAC) while Delta Devils quarterback Dewayne Betts threw for a game-high 272 yards and four touchdowns to lead MVSU (1-4, 1-1) to its first victory of the season.

Tyrin Ralph.
Before the half, Mississippi Valley tied the game with another touchdown pass, this time after the Golden Lions decided to go for it on 4th and short deep in its own territory with just over three minutes remaining in the half. However, field goal kicker
Jamie Gillan connected on a career-high 52-yard field goal to give UAPB a 17-14 lead at the half. The kick broke a previous field goal school record of 50 yards.
In the fourth quarter, the Golden Lions had a chance to tie the game at 31 apiece as running back McDonald crossed the goalline, but before he did officials say he fumbled the ball, resulting in a touchback after it was collected by a Delta Devils defender in the end zone.
The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff football team takes a break from SWAC play and returns to action on Saturday, October 14 as it hosts Central State University for its annual Homecoming game. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. at Golden Lion Stadium.
