Pine Bluff, AR. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions will host "Midnight Madness" event for its basketball teams on October 6, with a twist. The UAPB men's and women's teams will hold the celebration of the start of their new seasons not at midnight, but at the family-friendly hour of 7:00 p.m.

H.O. Clemmons Arena

Students, staff and the general public are invited to attend. The free event will feature plenty of excitement, free food for the first 500 fans, including an alumni vs. Greeks basketball game, a $500 scholarship half-court shot, a three-point shooting contest and a dunk contest.

UAPB's new basketball coaching staff decided to hold Midnight Madness as a way to build excitement for the upcoming season on campus and in the local community. Head Coach George Ivory leads as the men's head coach while head coach Nate Kilbert takes the reins of the women's team. Both UAPB squads will take part in this special event.

Midnight Madness usually takes place just after midnight on the first day that college basketball teams are permitted to hold practice. The tradition began in 1971 at the University of Maryland, and was later adopted by other big-time basketball programs.
