Box Score (Pine Bluff, Ark.) Despite leading two sets to one at home over Southwestern Athletic Conference rivals Grambling State University, the Lady Lions dropped a tight five set contest (25-16, 15-25, 26-24, 21-25, 6-15) to the Lady Tigers at H.O. Clemmons Arena. The Lady Lions volleyball team was 5-1 in its last six games heading into the battle against GSU but couldn't quite hold on to make it 6-1 in its past seven games.
UAPBÂ (9-18, 8-6 SWAC) was led by
Kendalle Howard and
Taylor Sheppy who finished with 14 and 13 kills respectively. Setter
Britney Sahlmann had a game-high 43 assists while teammates Cheyenne Ogders and
Jade Sanlin finished with 16 and 15 digs respectively.
The Lady Lions were up two sets to one after winning a thrilling 26-24 victory in set three. UAPB had complete control of the match until GSU stormed back in set four after trailing 12-11 and scored four points off of Lady Lions attack errors, allowing Grambling to win the match-tying set.
GSU (13-18, 7-6 SWAC) opened up the final set on a 6-1 run and finished the comeback with a 15-6 victory in set five.
UAPB returns to action on Thursday, November 2 as it travels to Baton Rouge to face Southern University in SWAC play. First serve is set for 6:30 p.m.
