UAPB BOWS OF SWAC TOURNEY WITH 4-2 DEFEAT TO JACKSON STATE

Box Score NEW ORLEANS (May 20) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Baseball team bows out of the 2016 Southwestern Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament with a 4-2 loss to Jackson State, here Friday morning at Wesley Barrow Stadium.
 
UAPB finished the contest with four hits, whereas JSU tallied seven.
 
Aderly Perez led the Golden Lions from the plate with two hits in four at-bats and driving one run. 
 
Cornelius Copeland for JSU finished the contest with three hits in four at-bats and scoring one run.
 
Miguel Yrigoyen (9-3) received the win for JSU. He gave up four hits and struck out seven in nine innings of work.
 
C.J. Lewington received the loss for UAPB.  Lewington gave up seven hits and three earned runs in six and one-third innings of work.  Skylar Henson, the SWAC Relief Pitcher of the Year, struck out one in one and two-thirds innings of work.
 
Michael Bradley gave the Golden Lions a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as he scored on a JSU error.
 
JSU took the lead in the bottom of the second inning on a Campbell two-run homer to right fight giving the Tigers a 2-1 lead over the Golden Lions.
 
The Tigers added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning with Copeland scoring on an UAPB error and C.J. Newsome scoring on a Jesus Santana sacrifice fly to centerfield, giving JSU a 4-1 lead over UAPB.
 
Jaqueese Moore scored the Golden Lions' second run of the game in the top of the sixth inning as he scored on a Perez single up the middle for the 4-2 finale.
 
UAPB Notes:  UAPB wins first SWAC Baseball Tournament game in school history; Skylar Henson is named the SWAC Relief Pitcher of the Year and is a First Team All-Conference selection; Carlos James' fourth 20-plus win in his tenure at UAPB…
 
Henson is the second Golden Lion under James' tutelage to receive such an honor.  In 2013, Isias Alcantar was named the SWAC Player of the Year
