Box Score PINE BLUFF, Ark. (April 2) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Baseball team used a six-run second inning to propel them to a 12-4 win over Grambling State, here Saturday afternoon at the Torii Hunter Baseball, Softball and Little League Complex.
The Golden Lions are now 7-4 in Southwestern Athletic Conference Western Division play and 7-18 overall, while the Tigers are 8-3 in conference play and 11-15 overall. With the win, UAPB ties the series at 1-1 with GSU and are one-game out of first place in the Western Division.
UAPB finished the contest with 15 hits, while GSU tallied six in the contest.
The Golden Lions was led by both
Aderly Perez and
Julian Jones, who both went three-for-five from the play and scoring one run.
Diamyn Hall led the Tigers from the plate with two hits in three at-bats and scoring one run.
Blake Estep (1-3) picked up the win for UAPB. In relief, Blake pitched five innings, allowing one hit and striking out three in the 20 batters he faced.
Dion Holbrook (0-3) received the loss for the Tigers. In his outing, Holbrook pitched one and two-third innings, allowing five hits and five earned runs in the 11 batters he faced.
GSU grabbed the early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning with Wesley Drain scoring on a Larry Barraza grounds out to the shortstop.
UAPB scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 6-1 lead.
The Tigers plated a run in their half of the fifth inning and two runs in their half of the eighth inning.
UAPB scored one run in the fourth, two in the fifth, one in the sixth and two in the eighth for the 12-4 finale.
