Box Score PINE BLUFF, Ark. (April 9) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Baseball team picked up a pair of wins in a sweep of Alabama A&M, here Saturday afternoon at the Torii Hunter Baseball, Softball and Little League Complex.
UAPB won the first game 4-3 in extra innings and held on for a 1-0 win in game two over AAMU.
In game one, UAPB finished the contest with 11 hits, whereas AAMU recorded eight.
The Golden Lions had three players to finish with two hits apiece in
Joshua Williams,
Jacob Columbo and
Jaqueese Moore.
AAMU also had three players to finish with three hits apiece in Carlton Peppers, Nolan Ramsey and Boston Martinez-Neal.
Skyler Henson (2-1) got the win in game one. He pitched one scoreless inning in relief and striking out one.
Blake Estep, the UAPB starter went seven innings, allowing seven hits, three earned runs and striking out eight in the 30 batters he faced.
Antoine Luster also toed the rubber for the Golden Lions. He pitched two innings, allowing one hit and striking out in the seven batters he faced.
Branson Marsonek (2-6) received the loss for the Bulldogs. He pitched two innings in relief, allowing two hits, one earned run and striking out two in the nine batters he faced. Josh Burchell, the Alabama A&M starter, gave up nine hits, two earned runs and striking out six in the 34 batter he faced.
AAMU jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one and one-half innings of play. In their half of the first inning, Eugene Freeman, who led off the inning with triple to left field scored on a Tanner Ivey ground out to second. Then Peppers would score in the top of the second inning on a Boston Martinez-Neal double to right field.
UAPB got on the board in the bottom of the second inning with Williams scoring on a Moore single up the middle, cutting AAMU's lead to 2-1.
The Golden Lions then tied the contest at 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning on a
Julian Jones single up the middle scoring
Jordan Knox.
AAMU went ahead 3-2 in the top of the seventh inning on a Nolan Ramsey single to centerfield scoring Peppers.
UAPB tied the contest at 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning with
Aderly Perez scoring on an AAMU fielding error.
Moore would be the hero for the Golden Lions with single to centerfield scoring
Adam Graham for the 4-3 win in the bottom of the 10
th inning.
In game two, both team finished with five hits.
Moore led UAPB from the plate as he finished the contest a perfect three-for-three from the plate.
Both J.T. O'Reel and Nolan Ramsey finished with two hits each to lead the Bulldogs from the plate.
Humberto Media (3-3) got the win for Golden Lions did not yield a hit to the Bulldogs until the fourth inning. He finished the game, allowing four hits and striking out 11 in the 25 batters he faced.
Ciji Ramos got the save for UAPB. He pitched two innings in relief, allowing one hit and striking out four in the seven batters he faced.
Tyler Chatman got the start for Bulldogs. He pitched three innings, allowing three hits, one earned runs and striking out two. AAMU also sent Caleb Roberts to the hill. In his outing, Roberts gave up two hits and struck out two in the five innings of work.
UAPB scored the only run of the contest in the bottom of the third inning with
Jaylen Jackson scoring on a Knox single up the middle for the 1-0 finale.
