ROACH RECORDS LONGEST SHOT PUT IN SCHOOL AND CONFERENCE HISTORY

Birmingham, Ala. – Sireta Roach registered the longest weight throw in UAPB women's program history on her second heave of the day at the KMS Invitational held at the Birmingham Crossplex. The Jamaica native tossed a shot put conference and school best of 15.42m (50-7.25) on her way to a gold showing. Ms. Roach also finished third in the weight throw 18.01m (59-01.25), which ranks her second in the conference.

"I felt like you could see the progression from week one to week two today," head Coach Christopher McCoy said. "We seemed a little more at ease and comfortable and got some good marks, hopefully it will continue down the stretch." "My goal is to have Sireta throwing 53.0, by conference championship, but with her position coach working and motivating her to make history; it's also making her teammates better around her and opening the door for future women throwers here at UAPB. "

Glyniece Payne, a fellow weight thrower, registered 18^th out of 40 showing with a toss of 13.91m (45-7.75). On the men's side, Miles Dorch notched a personal best with a projectile throw of 12.95m.

The Golden Lions registered four personal bests on a two day event, even though giving several of their athletes some rest this weekend. One of those personal best came from Takia Taylor on the women's side, which finished seventh in the 400m dash against some the top unattached and shoe company runners with a time of 56.89.

Chystal Christopher finished fifth in the long jump with a distance of 5.41m (17-09.00), and Sydnee Worlds placed seventh in the triple jump with a distance of 11.59m (38.00-25), but she still holds the first place in the conference with a jump of 11.80m.

One the men's side, UAPB has five of the top 12 runners in the conference in the 400m dash. Jerrel Wilson finished with a time of 49.09 in the 400m dash, along with teammate Justin Cooper who finished with a time of 49.77 and LaMarques Woodard with a time of 49.82.

UAPB will be back in action Feb. 5 in the Southern Illinois Invitational.
