NORTH DAKOTA STATE EDGES UAPB, 2-0, 8-7

Box Score PINE BLUFF, Ark. (Feb. 19) - In their home opener, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Baseball team dropped a doubleheader to North Dakota State with the Bison winning game one, 2-0 and game two, 8-7 in extra innings, here Friday afternoon at the Torii Hunter Baseball, Softball and Little League Complex.
 
In game one, UAPB finished the contest with five hits, whereas NDSU tallied four.
 
Jaylen Jackson led the Golden Lions from the plate with two hits, while the Bison had four players to finish with one hit apiece.
 
Brian (1-0) VanderWoude picked up the win for NDSU as he pitched four scoreless innings, allowing only four hits and striking out three.  Sean Terres got the save for the Bison with him pitching one innings, striking out two.
 
Blake Estep (0-1) received the loss for UAPB as hit pitched eight innings, allowing four hits, two earned runs and striking out nine in the 32 batters he faced.  The Golden Lions sent three more pitchers to the mound in the contest in Anthony Bowmaker, Ciji Ramos and Skyler Henson.  Bowmaker toed the rubber for two-third innings, followed by Ramos and Henson as he recorded one-third inning of work and striking out one.
 
NDSU scored their only runs of the contest in their half of the ninth inning with Ben Petersen leading off the inning with a double down the left field ling.  Taylor Sanders then hit into a double play scoring Petersen, followed by wild pitch scoring Brayden Resch.
 
In game two, UAPB finished the contest with 15 hits with Jaqueese Moore leading the Golden Lions from the plate with four hits and Jordan Knox with three.
 
NDSU tallied 11 hits with Resch, Juan Gamez and Matt Elsenpeter finishing with two hits apiece to lead the Bison.
 
Luke Lind (1-0), picked the win for NDSU as he pitched four and two-third innings, allowing three hits and striking out five.  Alex Rogers, the Bison starter recorded two innings, allowing six hits, four earned runs and striking out three.  Blake Tritch and Zack Mayo both pitched one and two-thirds inning for NDSU.  Tritch gave up three hits and one earned run, while Mayo gave up three hits and striking out four in the 10 batters he faced.
 
Skyler Henson (0-1) received the loss for the Golden Lions as he pitched two innings, allowing one hits, one earned run and striking out two in the nine batters he faced.  Humberto Medina the UAPB starter, toed the rubber for five and two-third innings, allowing nine hits, seven earned runs and striking out six in the 26 batters, he faced.  Bowmaker also made an appearance on the mound for UAPB pitching two and one-third innings in relief, allowing one hit and striking out four in the 10 batters, he faced.
 
NSU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in their half of the second innings, with J.T. scoring on a Gamez triple to right center field.
 
UAPB regained the lead in the bottom of the second inning as they scored four runs in the inning.  A Moore double up the middle scoring Jerimiah Figueroa, followed by a Knox triple scoring both Moore and Roberto Colon.  Then Knox would score on a Moore single up the middle. 
 
The Bison took a 5-4 lead as they scored four runs in the top of the third inning.  Elsenpeter scored NDSU's first run of the inning on a Drew Fearing single up the middle, followed by a Resch three-run home run to right center.
 
UAPB tied the contest 5-5 in the bottom of the third inning with Chris Burns scoring on a Haas sacrifice fly to center field.
 
The Golden Lions then scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 7-5 lead Munoz double to down the left field line scoring both Jackson and Knox.
 
NDSU tied the contest at 7-7 in the top of the sixth inning with Mason Pierzchalski scoring on a Gamez triple to left field and Gomez scoring on an Elsen Peter single.
 
The Bison scored the final run of the contest for the 8-7 on a Gamez sacrifice fly to center field scoring Resch.
