LADY LIONS SWEEPS JACKSON ST. IN FINAL HOME GAME

Box Score Pine Bluff, AR.- The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff volleyball team closed their final home game Saturday night at the H.O. Clemmons Arena with a three-set sweep (25-15, 27-25, 25-22) over Jackson State. It was also was the first time in school history that UAPB swept the Lady Tigers.

The Lady Lions are peaking at the right time, as they ride on a three game winning streak, before hitting the road to face Prairie View. A victory over the Lady Panthers can lock up the fifth seed for UAPB in the conference tournament held November 18-20 in Jackson, Mississippi.

Senior Courtney Brand made most of her final appearance in front of an energetic home crowd, continuing to shatter the school record in digs, finishing the night with 18 digs and two assists.

Not to be outdone, Lauren Corby also put down 11 kills, and added a hitting percentage of .348, 10 digs and four solo blocks.

Taylor Burrall and Taleah Ross provided nine and seven kills, respectively, while defensive specialist Jade Sanlin totaled 11 digs. Freshman Britney Sahlmann continues to dominate the assists for the Lady Lions with 31.

The Lady Lions recorded six team blocks with middle blocker Lauren Corby leading the way with four, followed by Taylor Burrall with two.

UAPB set the tone in set one, jumping out to a 4-0 lead, before the JSU got on the board, but it was not enough as they would hold on to a 25-16 win.

The Lady Tigers claimed the opening points of the second set, which the game went toe to toe with nine different lead changes and the Lady Lions scoring the final three points to win in extra 27-25.

In set three UAPB strikes first, before JSU went on a 3-0 run to take a 3-1 lead. With the game being tied at 22-22, Burrall step with a hard kill to the corner of the inside line and two consecutive errors by the Lady Tigers gave UAPB the sweep at home.

The Lady Lions hit .222 as team while holding JSU to .167. UAPB as a team led JSU in aces (8-2) with Kendalle Howard with three and Jenna Wuzinski with two.

UAPB would be on the road to face Prairie View Monday November 14, 2016 at 6:30 P.M.
