UAPB BASEBALL OPENS SPRING PRACTICE THURSDAY LOOKING TO BUILD OFF 2015

BACK TO BACK 2014-15 WESTERN DIV CHAMPIONS (SWAC)
Pine Bluff, AR. - With two consecutive years of winning the Western Division of the Southwestern Athletic Conference, a slew of returning arms and a seasoned lineup have the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions Baseball team poised to build on a 26-win season in 2015, as they prepare for the 2016 season opener against  North Dakota State.

The Golden Lions began its preparations for the 2016 season Friday with the first official team practice of the spring. 
With the departures of of All Conference pitcher/first baseman Andre Davis, Outfielder Rashawn Tillman, and pitcher Kevin Walsh, due to graduation and the MLB Draft.  UAPB looks to still have no greater void in any position this season.

The UAPB enter their 6th year under the guidance of head coach Carlos James.  He has directed the Golden Lions to a 25-16 record last year, the best in school history and wins over Power 5 conference teams, Mississippi St. (SEC) Missouri (SEC) the University of Kansas(BIG12) and led his team to a back to back Southwestern Athletic Conference Western Division title in 2014 and 2015.

UAPB returns 14 letter winners from last year's division team.  Additionally, five of the everyday field starters return as do nine pitchers.  The Golden Lions will also welcome a hurl of talent newcomers to the diamond to add to the pitching rotation and depth to the bullpen.

The Golden Lions will do some limited scrimmaging today at 1:30pm at the Torii Hunter Baseball and Softball Complex and it will be open to the public.

The Black and Gold will open the 2016 season Feb. 19 when it hosts North Dakota State at home for a three-game set. Friday's first pitch for the series is scheduled for 12 p.m.
