Box Score STARKVILLE, Miss. (Aug. 28)  - In their second match of the Mississippi State Invitational, the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff dropped a 3-0 (14-25, 19-25, 10-25) decision to Southern Utah here Friday afternoon at Newell-Grissom Arena.
 
UAPB (0-2) was paced by both Courtney Billups and Alexis Smith as they both finished with four kills apiece for the Lady Lions, followed by Kayla Dowdell with three.  Katy Hufnogel led UAPB in assists with 13, while Courtney Brand led the team in digs with 11.
 
SUU (2-0) was led by Madi Forsythe with 15 kills, followed by Chennin Benson with eight.  McKenzie Nicol led the team in assists with 30, while Sariah Pelaez led the team in digs with eight.
 
In first set, SUU jumped out to a 7-1 lead.  Then SUU extended their lead to 20-7 as the Thunderbirds went on to win the set 25-14.
 
The Lady Lions would bounce back in the second with UAPB taking a 6-4 lead on a SUU attack error.
 
SUU tied the set at 8-8 on an UAPB tack error, followed a pair of attack errors and a bad set by the Lady Lion giving the Thunderbirds a 10-9 lead.
 
UAPB cut SUU's lead to 14-13 on a kill by Billups  But that would close as the Lady Lions would get the Thunderbirds went on to win the set 25-19.
 
SUU jumped out to a 10-3 in the third set. Then extended their lead to 16-4 on a kill by Taylor Heine as the Thunderbirds went on win the third set 25-10 to win the match 3-0.
 
UAPB will take on the University of Louisiana at Monroe on Saturday, August 29 in their final match of the Mississippi State Invitational in a 2 p.m. start.
