Box Score PINE BLUFF, Ark. (May 7) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Baseball closed out their 2015 home schedule with a 8-2 win over Alcorn State, here Thursday afternoon at the Torii Hunter Baseball, Softball and Little League Complex.
UAPB finished the contest with 10 hits, while ASU tallied four.
The Golden Lions was led by both
Vladimir Gomez and Chris Burns. Gomez finished the contest with three hits in five at-bats, scoring two runs and driving in four. Burns went a perfect three-for-three from the plate scoring two runs and driving in two.
ASU was led by Earl Burl with two hits and two RBIs.
Humberto Medina (3-3) picked the win for UAPB, allowing four hits, two earned runs and striking out nine in seven innings of work. Both
Ciji Ramos and
Harry Estep made appearances on the mound for the Golden Lions with both pitching and inning each for the Golden Lions.
Daniel Belmont (2-7) received the loss for the Braves, allowing seven hits, four earned runs and striking out three in five innings of work. Devontae Thompson cam in relief of Belmont, allowing two hits, two earned runs and striking out one in two innings of work. Jesus Vasquez closed out the contest for the Braves, allowing one hit, one earned runs and striking out one in one inning on the mound for ASU.
UAPB jumped to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a Gomez single up the middle scoring Burns.
ASU regained the lead in the top of the third inning with a two-run homer by Burl, giving the Braves a 2-1 lead.
UAPB countered in their half of the third inning as the Golden Lions scored four runs in the inning on three hits and one ASU error, giving them a 5-2 lead.
The Golden Lions plated two runs in fourth, two runs in the sixth and one in the eighth for the 10-2 victory.
