UAPB SWEEPS GRAMBLING STATE IN SUNDAY DOUBLEHEADER

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (April 26) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Baseball team picked up a pair of wins over Grambling State with the Golden Lions winning game on 7-6 in extra inning and winning game two 8-0, here Sunday afternoon at the Torii Hunter Baseball, Softball and Little League Complex.
 
In game one, UAPB finished the contest with nine hits, while GSU punched out seven in the contest.
 
Andre Davis, the hero in game one hit a double to left field to driving in the winning run for the Golden Lions, finished the contest with two hits.  Also Roberto Colons tallied two hits in the contest for UAPB.
 
Yariel Medina led the Tigers from the plate with two hits.
 
Kevin Walsh (4-2) picked up the win for UAPB, allowing one earned runs and striking out two in two innings of work.  Blake Estep the Golden Lion starter, pitched eight innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out seven in the 34 batters he faced.
 
Desmond Stegall (0-1) received the loss for the Tigers with him pitching two-third innings, allowing two hits and two earned runs in relief.  Jaiden France made the start for GSU, allowing seven hits, four earned runs and striking out three in five innings of work.  Also making appearances on the mound for the Tigers was Marlon Pruitt, Brennan Williams and Creighton Hoover, who all combined for four innings of work.
 
Drexler gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning with him scoring on a wild pitch.
 
In their half of the first, UAPB regained the lead with both Munoz and Andre Davis scoring for the Golden Lions in the inning, giving them a 3-1 advantage over the Tigers. 
 
UAPB added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth with Gomez scoring on a Tommy Haas single up the middle, giving the Golden a 4-1 lead.
 
GSU would tie the contest at 5-5 with a Media double to left field scoring Roger Diaz in the top of the eighth inning.
 
The Tigers took a 6-5 in the top of the 10th inning with Holbrook scoring on a Medina sacrifice fly foul out.
 
In their half of the 10th inning, Christ Phelps tied the contest at 6-6 as he scored on a Colon single.  Then Colon would score on a Davis single to left field, giving the Golden Lions the 7-6 win.
 
In game two, UAPB belted out 15 hits, while GSU punched out four.
 
Colon led the Golden Lions from the plate with three hits in five at-bats and scoring two runs, while Stegall paced the Tigers with two hits.
 
Humbert Medina received the win for UAPB, allowing four hits and striking out six in eight and one-third innings of work.  Davis closed the game of Medina, as he struck out two in two-third innings of work.
 
UAPB scored three runs in their half of the third, two in the fourth, one in the fifth, seventh and eighth inning for the 8-0 win.
