UAPB SWEEPS PRAIRIE VIEW IN SUNDAY DOUBLEHEADER

Box Score PINE BLUFF, Ark. (April 12) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Baseball team completed their sweep of Prairie View A&M with the Golden Lions pulling out a 2-1 win in game one and defeating the Panthers 10-4 in game two, here Sunday afternoon at the Torii Hunter Baseball, Softball and Little League Complex.
 
The first contest was broadcast on the Southwestern Athletic Conference Digital Network with both teams combining for 12 hits in the game.  PVAMU tallied seven hits, while UAPB finished with five.
 
 Robert Colon led the Golden Lions from the plate with two hits, while Grant Dougherty finished two hits to lead the Panthers.
 
Kevin Walsh (3-2) received the win for UAPB as he pitched one and two-thirds scoreless inning in relief, allowing one hit and striking out three.  Billy Olson made the start for UAPB, allowing six hits, one earned run and striking out nine in seven and one-third innings of work.
 
Jordan Stewart (2-6) received the loss for PVAMU, allowing five hits, one earned run and striking out nine in eight innings of work.
 
Gabriel Munoz, who led off the bottom of the second inning with a double to left field, scored UAPB's first run of the game as John Cassidy hit into a double-play, giving the Golden Lions a 1-0 lead.
 
PVAMU tied the contest at 1-1 in the top of the fifth inning on a Jordan Jeanlouis single to right field scoring Kevin Macias, who tripled to right field in his at bat.
 
Jeremiah Figueroa broke the 1-1 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning on an Andre Davis double to right field, giving the Golden Lions the 2-1 win.
 
In game two UAPB served as the visiting team and PVAMU was the home team.  The Golden Lions and Panthers were only able to play two-games of their three-game series, due to inclement weather in Prairie View, Texas on March 8.
 
The Golden Lions finished the contest with 10 hits, while the Panthers finished with seven hits and one error on the day.
 
Both Davis and Collin Drury finished with two hits apiece to lead the Golden Lions.   In addition, Davis finished the contest scoring two runs and driving in three runs, while Drury drove in one runs and scoring two on the day.
 
PVAMU was led by Grant Dougherty with two hits for the Panthers.
 
Ciji Ramos (1-0) picked up the win for the Golden Lions, allowing one hits, one earned runs and striking out two in three and one-third inning of relief.  Harry Estep made the start for UAPB, allowing four hits, three earned runs and striking out two in two innings of work.  Chris Phelps also made an appearance on the mound for UAPB, allowing two hits, and striking out two in three and two-third innings of work.
 
PVAMU sent three pitchers to the mound in the second game.  Charles Philpott (1-5) received the loss for the Panthers, allowing four hits, three earned runs and striking out one in three and one-third innings of work.  Pedro Maldonado came in relief of the Philpott, allowing two hits and two earned runs in two and two-third innings of work.  Rounding out the cast of PVAMU pitcher used was Dougherty, who pitched three innings, allowing four hits and three earned runs in three innings of work.
 
UAPB scored their first run of the contest on a Davis single up the middle scoring Rashawn Tillman giving the Golden Lions a 1-0 in the top of the first inning.
 
PVAMU regained the lead in the bottom of the first innings with Walter Wells scoring on an Angel Avalos single to center field, followed by Cody Den Beste single up the middle scoring Carson Lee.
 
The Golden Lions plated two runs in the top of the third inning on a Davis homer to left field, giving UAPB a 3-2.
 
PVAMU tied the contest at 3-3 in the bottom of the third inning with Wells scoring on a wild pitch.
 
UAPB broke the tied with Tommy Haas scoring on a Munoz bases load, giving the Golden Lions the 4-3 advantage.
 
The Golden Lions added to their lead with UAPB plating one run in the top of the fifth and scoring two runs in the top of the sixth to take a 7-3 lead. 
 
PVAMU plated one run in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut UAPB's lead to 7-4.
 
UAPB scored three more runs in their half of the ninth inning for the 10-4 finale.
