UAPB SWEEPS DOUBLEHEADER AGAINST PRAIRIE VIEW A&M

Box Score PINE BLUFF, Ark. (April 11) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Baseball team picked up a pair of wins over Prairie View A&M with the Golden Lions winning game one, 7-6 and  game two 4-3, here Saturday afternoon at the Torii Hunter Baseball, Softball and Little League Complex.
 
In game one, UAPB finished the contest with nine hits, while Prairie View tallied six.
 
The Golden Lions was had three players to finish with two hits each in Vladimir Gomez, Gabriel Munoz and Josh Cassidy.
 
PVAMU was led by both Codey Den Beste and Darrien Williams as they both finished with two hits each for the Panthers.
 
Kevin Walsh (2-2) received the win for the Golden Lions with him pitching one and two-third innings in relief, allowing just one hit and striking out two in the five batters he faced.  Humberto Medina made the start for UAPB, allowing five hits, five earned runs and striking out eight in five and one-third innings of work, while Andre Davis got the save striking out two in one inning of work.
 
Joseph Mack (0-1) received the loss for PVAMU, allowing eight hits, six earned runs and striking out five in seven innings of work. 
 
PVAMU was first to light up the score board as Walter Wells scored on two UAPB outfielder's errors, giving the Panthers a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
 
UAPB retained the lead in the bottom of the first inning with Rashawn Tillman scoring on a Chris Burns fielder's choice , followed by a Munoz single up the middle scoring both Burns and Gomez, giving the Golden Lions a 3-1 lead.
 
The Golden Lions added to their lead in the bottom of the third inning with  Gomez scoring on a Munoz fielder's choice, making the score 4-1 over the Panthers.
 
Cassidy gave the Golden Lions a 5-1 lead as he scored on a Robert Colon sacrifice fly to center field in the bottom of the fourth inning.
 
PVAMU tied the contest at 6-6 as the Panthers plated three runs in the top of the fifth and two runs in the top of the sixth inning.
 
UAPB regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Colon double down the left field line scoring Tillman, for the 7-6 finale.
 
In game two, UAPB finished the contest with eight hits, while PVAMU punched out seven.
 
Davis led the Golden Lions from the plate with three hits, scoring one run and driving in two runs in the contest.
 
Wells and Connor Wrye finished with two hits each to lead PVAMU.
 
Blake Estep (4-2) received the win for UAPB, allowing seven hits, one earned run and striking out nine in eight and one-third innings of work, while Davis picked up his second save of the day and third overall, striking out two in two-third innings of work.
 
Alberto Aveytia (2-6) received the loss for PVAMU, allowing eight hits, four earned runs and striking out four in eight innings of work.
 
 
PVAMU jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a Wrye homer to the left field in the top of the second inning.
 
UAPB answered in their half of the second inning with a Colin Drury solo shot to left, tying the contest at 1-1.
 
The Golden Lions broke the tie in the bottom of the sixth inning with Colon scoring on Davis single, followed by a Cassidy double to right field scoring Davis, giving the Golden Lions a 3-1 lead.
 
UAPB plated one more run in the bottom of the seventh inning with Russell McGibbon scoring on a Davis single up the middle, increasing the Golden Lions' lead to 4-1.
 
PVAMU would put together a rally in top of the ninth inning with Wells scoring on a UAPB infielder's error, followed by a passed ball scoring Den Beste, for the 4-3 finale.
