UAPB EVENS SERIES WITH A 19-5 VICTORY OVER PRAIRIE VIEW

Box Score Prairie View, TX. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff shook off a disappointing 9-7 loss in the first leg of its doubleheader and captured a 19-5 win in game two, evening its series with Prairie View Panthers at Tankersley Field to set up a rubber match on Sunday..

Game One: Prairie View 9, UAPB 3

Prairie View pitchers Alberto Aveytia and Jordan Johnson combined to hold the potent UAPB offense to five straight scoreless innings, taking game one of Saturday's doubleheader, 9-7, at Tankersley Field.

Aveytia(1-2) allowed five runs while scattering eight hits to pick-up the victory. He struck out six while issuing two walks, tossing five total innings.

In game one Prairie View (5-8, 3-1 SWAC) rush to an 8-0 lead in the fourth inning, but the Golden Lion's four-run seventh inning cut the host team lead down four (8-4). Despite a rally from the Golden Lions down the stretch, the Panthers held on for the win game one.
UAPB starter Billy Olson (1-2) was saddled with the loss, surrendering eight runs on 10 hits with two strikeouts and one walk, Reliever Harry Estep struck out four in two after completing two innings.

UAPB fell behind 8-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning only to rally with four in the top half of the seventh inning to pull back within four, 8-4. Chris Beer led-off with a walk along with Jason Ibrahim to put a man on first and second, before Michael Bradley double to center field scoring two runs.  The Golden Lions would add another runner on base due to a walk by Aveytia, which gave Rus McGibbon a chance to cut the lead with a two-RBI single up the middle. 

The Golden Lions would get within two in the bottom of the ninth inning.  UAPB had base loaded with no outs, but couldn't capitalize on the opportunity.  Jose Hernandez popped into an infield fly, and the Prairie View pitching closer force Mitch Bruckshaw grounded to the second base to end the game.  

Game two: UAPB 19 Prairie View 5

The Golden Lions (5-7, 3-2 SWAC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning, tacked on three runs in the sixth, seventh, eighth and scored seven in the ninth to run away with the victory in game two.

With the Golden Lions lead down to two run, 6-4 in the sixth inning, UAPB erupted for 13 runs in the visitor half of the next three innings to down the Panthers, 19-5.
The Golden Lions pushed across the 19 runs on 19 hits, capitalizing on nine walks, two hit batters and four errors.

Four UAPB batters recorded multi-hit games with Tommy Hass going 4-for-4 with three-runs, and Andre Davis pacing the squad with a 4-for-5 showing a double and two-home run with two RBI's.  Josh Cassidy also contributes with the Golden Lions hot bats, who were 3-for-5 with four runs, followed by Drury Colin going 3-for-5 with four RBI's.

Rashawn Tillman and Westin Hinkel joined Vladimir Gomez by finishing with four hits combined in the victory.  UAPB let their bats do the talking in game two by out hitting Prairie View 19-7. 

UAPB Pulled out to a 6-0 lead through the first six frames with two runs in the second and one in the fourth inning and three in the top of the sixth. After Prairie View closed to within two 6-4, in the bottom of the sixth, the Golden Lions hung a three-spot on the board in the top of the seventh and the eighth to make the score 11-5 through eight complete, before another rally for UAPB to push the lead to 19-5.

Junior Blake Estep (2-2) picked up the victory in game two after tossing 5.0 innings on the mound, going 4.0 innings with a no-hitter and giving up four hits, striking out four and walking two batters. Pre- season All SWAC senior Kevin Walsh came in facing 11 batters in 3.0 innings, striking out six allowing only two hits.  Ciji
Ramos held Prairie View scoreless in the last inning, retiring all three batters striking out two. 

Prairie View starter Jordan Stewart (2-2) was tagged with the loss, surrendering nine runs on 15 hits in 6.1 innings.  Stewart struck out four with one walk as the first of five pitchers used by the Panthers.
