NO. 23 TIGERS JUMPED OUT TO EARLY ADVANTAGE TO EN ROUTE TO A 9-3 WIN OVER UAPB

Box Score Columbia, Mo. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (10-10, 6-3 SWAC) ended its two-game series with a 9-3 loss to No. 23 Missouri (19-7, 5-1 SEC) on Wednesday at Taylor Stadium.

The Tigers plated five in the first then followed with one in the second, two runs in the third and one in the sixth to take a 9-3 win.

Missouri jumped on the board first scoring five runs right out the gate in the bottom of the first inning.  Starter  Ciji Ramos was scratched right before the first pitch due to an injury in warm up, which caused the Golden Lions to shuffle their pitching rotation.

Humberto Medina came in and got off to a slow start with Josh Lester who knocked in two runs with a single to left after back to back walks to make the score 2-0.  Missouri would tack on three more runs, before Medina would force Logan Pearson to ground out to first to end the inning.

After the Tigers jumped out to an 8-1 lead, UAPB rally back to cut the lead to five (8-3) after two runners came on two straight walks and scored on a wild pitch and a throwing error by Missouri catcher Brett Bond in the 5th inning.

In the next inning, UAPB had an opportunity in the sixth inning to cut the lead with bases loaded one out, but Jose Hernandez popped up to the second baseman and Roberto Colon was double up at first to end the inning.

Michael Bradley led UAPB going 2-for-4, with one RBI, along with Chris Burns going 2-for-3 for the day while Jason Ibrahim, Austin Grier and Chris Beer finished with one hit apiece.

Humberto Medina suffered the loss as he went 2.0 innings in the start with five hits, five earned runs, and one strikeouts.  Chris Phelps followed in relief, giving up a combined five hits and three earned runs with two walks and one strikeout. Harry ESTEP pitched the last two innings giving up one hit, no runs and striking out three.

The Golden Lions will be on the road for another non conference match with Southland member New Orleans for a three-game series this weekend.  Game times have been schedule for Friday 6:30 p.m., Saturday 2:00 p.m. and Sunday's game is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
