Box Score HOUSTON (Feb. 27) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Baseball team defeated Texas Southern 7-2 in game one and dropped a 2-1 decision to the Tigers in extra innings in game in the conference opener, here Friday afternoon at MacGregor Park.
In game one UAPB belted out six hits, while TSU finished with six. Both teams combined for eight errors in the contest with the Tigers finishing with five and the Golden Lions with three.
Chris Burns led UAPB from the plate with two hits in three at-bats, scoring two runs and driving in one, while Zach Howell went two-for-four from the plate to lead TSU.
Billy Olson (1-1) picked up the win for the Golden Lions, allowing three hits, two earned runs and striking out six in the seven innings of work, while
Andre Davis pitched two innings in relief, allowing one hit and striking out in the nine batters he faced.
Seth Oliver received the loss for the Tigers as he pitched three innings, allowing two hits, three earned runs and striking out four in the 16 batters he faced, while Frank Cruz pitched six innings in relief, allowing four hits, two earned runs and striking out five in the 27 batters he faced.
UAPB jumped to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning with
Rashawn Tillman scoring on a Westin Hinkel single to right field, followed by a Jeremiah fielder's choice scoring Hinkel.
Ryan Lazo cut UAPB's lead to 2-1 as he scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first inning.
A two-run double by Tillman added to the Golden Lions lead in the top of the fourth inning scoring both
Joshua Cassidy and Christopher Burns, giving UAPB a 4-1 lead.
TSU cut UAPB's lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning as Robert Garza scored on a Gerreck Jimenez sacrifice fly to right field.
UAPB plated three more runs in the contest for the 7-2 finale with Burns scoring on a
Jason Ibrahim single in the top of the eighth inning. Then in the top of the ninth inning Scored on a Figueroa single, followed by a Burns double scoring Figueroa.
In game two, TSI outhit UAPB 7-4 with both teams combining for a six errors in the contest. The Tigers committed five errors, while the Golden Lions committed one.
Lazo had the hot bat for Tigers in the second game as he went three-for-five from the plate scoring one runs and driving in one, while the Golden Lions had four players to finish with one hit each for UAPB.
Devin Konarik pick up the win for TSU as he pitched one and two-third scoreless innings and striking out three. Robert Pearson made the start for the Tigers, allowing three hits, one earned runs and striking out seven in the six and two-third innings of work.
Kevin Walsh received the loss for the Golden Lions as he pitched two and one-third innings allowing three hits, one earned run and striking out two in the 11 batters he faced. Charles Bahn made start for UAPB, allowing two hits and striking out one in the two innings of work.
TSU took the early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning with Zach Welz scoring on Lazo single up the middle.
UAPB tied the contest at 1-1 in the top of the seventh inning with
Jose Hernandez scoring on Gabriel Munoz sacrifice fly to left.
Lazo gave the Tigers the 2-1 win in the bottom of the 10
th inning as he scored on a Zach Howell fielder's choice.
