UAPB EDGES ALCORN STATE, 51-49

Box Score PINE BLUFF, Ark. (Feb.17)  - Carlisha Walker nailed two free throws with less one second left in regulation to lift the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Women's Basketball Team past Alcorn State, 51-49 here Tuesday evening at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
 
UAPB trailed ASU 44-38 with 6:54 left in the regulation as Jasmin Strane connected on two free throws to put the Lady Braves up by six.
 
The Lady Lions used a 11-5 run to tie the contest at 49-49 with 59 seconds left to play on a Walker layup with Shami Goodman scoring nine of the 11 points in the run.
 
In the first half,  UAPB jumped out to a 6-2 lead capped off by a Destiny Ham jumper with 18:00 left in the first.
 
The Lady Braves tied the contest at 9-9 on an Olivia Brown jumper with 7:03 left in the first, capping a 7-3 run by ASU.
 
A pair of Strane free throws gave the Lady Braves a 16-11 lead with 3:48 left in the first.
 
Ajia Richardson gave the Lady Lions a 19-18 lead with her made jumper with 30 seconds left in the half.
 
Brown hit a jumper as time expired to give ASU a 21-19 lead at the half.
 
UAPB finished the first half shooting 36.0 percent (9-of-25), while ASU shot 25.0 percent (7-of-28).
 
The Lady Lions opened the second half with a 10-2 run to take a 29-23 lead with a 17:08 left in regulation capped off by a pair of Richardson free throws.
 
ASU regained the lead with a 10-3 run to take a 33-32 lead with 12:33 remaining in the contest, capped off by a Strane jumper.  Then extended their lead to 44-38 with an 11-6 run with 6:54 left in the regulation.
 
UAPB (6-18, 4-9 SWAC) was paced by Goodman as she score 17 points from off the bench to lead the Lady Lions, followed by Walker with 13.  Both Richardson and Jazmyne Victorian led UAPB on the boards with seven each.
 
ASU (6-15, 5-7 SWAC) was led by Brown with a team high 13 points, followed by Strane with 12 points and 11 rebounds. 
 
UAPB will return to action this  Saturday, February 21 as they will travel to Houston, Texas to take on Texas Southern in a 5:30 p.m. start at H&PE Arena.
