Box Score LAKE CHARLES, La. (Feb. 15) - McNeese State scored six runs in their half of the fifth inning to defeat the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, 7-1 here Sunday afternoon at Cowboy Diamond Stadium.
UAPB finished the contest with three hits, while MCN tallied 14.
Josh Cassidy led the Golden Lions from the play as he went two-for-two from the plate, while Cameron Toole finished three-for-three from the plate.
Trent Fontenot (1-0) picked up the win for the Cowboys, allowing two hits, one earned run and striking out five in the 20 batters faced. MCN had three more pitchers to toe the rubber. Taylor Day pitched one scoreless inning and striking out two. Austin Briggs pitched one inning of relief, allowing one hit and striking out one, followed by Jacob Williams, who pitched one inning and striking out one in the three batters he faced.
Blake Estep (0-1) received the loss for the Golden Lions as he pitched nine innings, allowing nine hits, six earned runs and striking out two.
Kevin Walsh saw one and two-thirds innings, allowing three hits, and one earned run. Jeremiah Figueroa pitched one inning of relief, allowing two hits in the four batters he faced. Also making appearance on the mound for UAPB was Ciji Ramos and Chris Phelps. Ramos saw one-third inning, while Phelps pitched two-third scoreless innings in the two batters he faced.
Vladimir Gomez gave the Golden Lions a 1-0 lead as he scored on a Robert Colon ground out to first base in the top of the second inning.
MCN tied the contest at 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning with the Matt Gallier scoring on a Toole fielder's choice.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, MCN plated six run in the inning for the 7-1 finale.
