Box Score PINE BLUFF, Ark. (Jan. 3) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Women 's Basketball team snapped their six-game losing streak with a 65-47 win over Mississippi Valley State in the Southwestern Athletic Conference home opener, here Saturday evening at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
UAPB, who never trailed in the contest, opened up the first half with a 9-0 lead capped off by a
Mollie Campbell layup with 15:48 left.
MVSU cut the Lady Lion's lead to 19-17 on a pair of Ashley Beals free throws with 6:37 to go in the half.
The Lady Lions finished the first half with a 14-7 run to take a 33-24 lead into the break.
UAPB finished the first half shooting 36.4 percent (12-of-33), while MVSU shot 26.1 percent (6-of-23).
The Lady Lions extended their lead to 37-26 in the opening minutes of the second half on a
Destiny Brewton layup with 18:54 to in the half.
MVSU used an 8-3 to cut UAPB's lead to 39-33 on a Beals layup with 16:38 to go.
UAPB extended their lead to 57-42 on a
Carlisha Walker layup with 6:51 left in the game, capping off an 18-9 by the Lady Lions.
In the final minutes of the game, UAPB outscored MVSU 10-5 for the 65-47 win.
The Lady Lions finished the game shooting 34.4 percent (22-of-64), while MVSU shot 25.5 percent (12-of-47).
 UAPB (3-9, 1-0 SWAC) had three Lady Lions to score in double-figures led by
Ajia Richardson with 15 points and five steals, followed by
Destiny Brewton with 13 points and Walker with 12 points, seven rebounds and five steals.
MVSU (2-10, 0-1 SWAC) was paced by Beals with a double-double scoring a game high 20 points and pulling down 12 rebounds, followed Kadesha Floyd with 12.
UAPB will continue their three-game home stand as they will welcome Alabama State to the H.O. Clemmons arena on Saturday, January 10 at 5 p.m. and then will take on Alabama A&M on Monday, January 12 at 5:30 p.m.
