Box Score PINE BLUFF, Ark. (Jan. 26) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Women's Basketball team dropped their fourth straight as Prairie View A&M handed the Lady Lions, 83-66 loss here Monday evening at the H.O. Clemmons Arena.
Prairie View A&M jumped out to an 11-2 lead, capped off by an Alexus Parker tip-in with 16:11 to go in the first.
The Lady Lions cut PVAMU's lead to 13-11 on a made free throw by
Carlisha Walker, capping a 9-2 run by UAPB.
PVAMU answered with an 11-0 run to a 24-13 lead on Shaneece Stephens layup with 9:22 left in the half.
A three pointer by
Diamond Richardson cut the Lady Panthers' lead to 31-26 with 2:51 to go in the half, capping a 13-7 run by the Lady Lions.
UAPB went into the break trailing PVAMU 38-30 as the Lady Lions finished the first half shooting 40.0 percent (12-of-30), while the Lady Panthers shot 41.7 percent (15-of-36).
An
Ajia Richardson jumper with 15:05 left in the game cut PVAMU's lead to 46-40 as that would be the closes that the Lady Lions would get as the Lady Panthers outscored UAPB 45-36 for the 83-66 win.
UAPB finished the contest shooting 42.2 percent (27-of-64), while PVAMU shot 42.9 percent (30-of-70).
PVAMU (8-11, 5-2 SWAC) was led by Jeanette Jackson as she scored a game high 20 points to lead all-scorers. Both Alexus Parker and Shamiya Brooks finished with double-doubles for the Lady Panthers with Parker scoring 16 points and pulling down 11 boards, while Brooks scored 14 and tallied rebounds in the contest. Rounding out the cast of double-digit performers were Stephens with 13. Both Jackson and Parker led the team in assists with Jackson dishing out six and Parker dishing out five.
UAPB (4-14, 2-5 SWAC) was paced by Walker with 15 points and eight rebounds, followed by
Ajia Richardson with 13 and
Diamond Richardson with 10.
Shami Goodman led the Lady Lions in assists with six.
The Lady Lions will return to action on Saturday, January 31 as they will travel to Grambling, La., to take on Grambling State in a 3 p.m. start at the Fredrick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.
