Alabama State stings UAPB, 42-7

Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. (Sept. 18)  - Malcolm Cyrus scored three TDs and rushed for 188 yards on 29 carries to lead Alabama State to a 42-7 win over the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Football team here Thursday night at the New Hornet Stadium, broadcasted live on ESPNU.

Marvante King scored the Golden Lions o only TD of the game as he scored from 79 yards out on a reception from Benjamin Anderson with 9:47 left in the fourth quarter.

Cyrus scored his first two TDs on the game in the first quarter as scored from 14 yards out and two yards, giving the Hornets a 14-0 lead.

ASU went into the break 21-0 as DeMario Bell scored from 68 yards out on pass from Daniel Duhart with 49 seconds left in the second quarter.

Cyrus recorded his third TD of the game on an 11-yard run with 10:06 to go in the third quarter, making the score 28-0 in favor of the Hornets.

ASU scored two more TDs in the second half for the 42-7 finally as they scored on a six yard run by Khalid Thomas and on a 63-yard scamper by Joshua Davis.

UAPB (1-2, 0-1 SWAC) was led by Anderson, who finished the contest with 80 yards rushing on 18 carries and passed for 183 yards as he completed 13 passes in 27 attempts with one interception and one TD.

The Golden Lions were led by Jared Turner with 14 tackles, followed by Willie Duncan with 12 and Antonio Jenkins with 11.

ASU   (3-1, 2-0 SWAC) on defense was led by Kourtney Berry with 11 tackles.

UAPB will return to action next week as they will welcome Jackson State to Golden Lion Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 27 in a 6 p.m. start.
