Box Score EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (Sept. 13) - In their second match of the Cougar Classic, the University of Arkansas at Pine Volleyball team fell to Southern Illinois at Edwardsville, 3-0 (18-25, 24-26, 14-25) here Saturday afternoon at the Vadalabene Center.
UAPB (1-7) was led by
Ayanna Parker with seven kills, followed by
Ashlie Jones with six, while both
Kayla Dowdell and
Whitney Harris with five each. Jones led the tea in digs with 10, while
Jordan Foyer led the team in assists with 16.
SIUE (5-4) was paced by Kristen Torre with 11 kills, followed by Ashley Witt with nine. Mallory Mangun led the team in assists with 21, while Chelsea Colclasure finished with a team high 10 digs.
The Cougars won the first set 25-18 to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
In the second set, UAPB took a 16-12 lead capped off by a kill by Jones. The Lady Lions extended their lead to 20-15.
SIUE tied the set at 24-24 on a UAPB attack error, capping a 9-4 run by the Cougars. Then a Lady Lion attach error, followed by a Katie Shashack kill would give SIUE the 26-24 win as they took a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the third set, SIUE jumped out to a 10-4 lead, capped off by a UAPB service error. UAPB closed the gap with a 6-4 run to cut the Cougars' lead to 14-10 on a Harris kill.
The Cougars concluded the set with an 11-4 run to win the set 25-14 and win the match 3-0.
UAPB will return to action on Saturday, Sept 13 against Indiana State in their final match of the Cougar Invitational in a 5 p.m. start.
