UAPB wins game two against Grambling State, 5-2

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (April 19) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Baseball split a doubleheader with Grambling State with the Tigers winning game one, 6-1 and the Golden Lions winning game two, 5-2, here Saturday afternoon at the Torii Hunter Baseball, Softball and Little  League Complex.
 
UAPB finished the contest with a game high 11 hits with three Golden Lions to finish with two hits each, while GSU tallied eight hits with Yariel Medina going a perfect three-for-three from the plate and driving in three runs.
 
Colby Martin (4-3) picked up the win for GSU as he pitched eight and two-third inning, allowing 11 hits, and one earned run in the 38 batters, he faced, whereas Kyle Schwartz (3-5) received the loss for the UAPB as he pitched eight and two-third innings allowing eight hits, one earned runs and striking out five in the 38 batters, he faced.
 
GSU jumped out a to a 6-0 as the Tigers plated one run in the top of the first inning and five runs in the top of the second inning.
UAPB scored their only run in the bottom of the ninth inning on a Jordan Haas sacrifice fly to right field scoring Kirby Campbell, for the 6-1 finale.
 
In game two, the Tigers outhit the Golden Lions, 7-5.
 
UAPB (16-23, 14-6 SWAC) was led by Mitch Bruckshaw with one hit in three at-bat and scoring two runs.
 
GSU (12-26, 9-12 SWAC) was led by Edwin Drexler as he went two-for-four from the plate and garnering three putouts in the contest.
 
Mikey Ramirez (4-4) picked up the win for Golden Lions as he pitched six and two-third innings, allowing seven hits, one earned run and striking out two, while Kevin Walsh (6) got the save as he pitched one inning and striking out two in the three batters he faced.
T.J. Murphy (2-7) received the loss for the Tigers as he pitched six innings, allowing five hits, and striking out one in the six innings of work, while Brock Baker pitched two innings in relief and striking one in the seven batters, he faced.
 
UAPB jumped out to the early 3-0 lead with Bruckshaw scoring on an infielder's error, followed by a GSU pitcher balk scoring Tyler Oertle.  Then Rashawn Tillman would score on an Alcantar ground out to the shortstop in the bottom of the third inning.
 
The Golden Lions added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning as Oertle singled to right field scoring both Bruckshaw and Andre Davis, making the score 5-0 in favor of UAPB.
 
GSU got on the board in the top of the seventh inning as Medina scored on a Brandon Kiser single, followed by a Dion Holbrook sacrifice fly to center field scoring Kiser for the 5-2 finale.

With win the Golden Lions wins the season series, 5-1 against GSU.    In addition, UAPB remain in first place in the Southwestern Athletic Conference Western Division with a conference record of 14-6.  Texas Southern is currently 11-5 in conference play and is currently in second place in the conference standings as the Tigers split with Southern University today in Baton Rouge, La.
