PINE BLUFF, Ark. (April 18) -
Joshua Cassidy hit into a fielder's choice scoring
Andre Davis in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Baseball Team, a 3-2 win over Grambling State, here Friday after noon at the Torii Hunter Baseball, Softball and Little League Complex.
GSU (11-25, 8-11 SWAC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead as Edwin Drexler, who led off the inning with a triple to right field, scored on a Juan Bueno ground out to second base in the top of the first inning, followed by a Johnathan Tineo single to left field scoring Korey Hall in the top of the second inning
UAPB (15-22, 13-5 SWAC) tied the contest at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Cassidy double to the left field scoring both
Isias Alcantar and
Rashawn Tillman.
The Golden Lions punched out eight hits in the contest with both Davis and Alcantar finishing with two hits apiece to lead UAPB, whereas GSU finished the contest with four hits.
Kevin Walsh (2-0) picked up the win for the Golden Lions as he pitched one-third inning in relief, while
Jaron Gold (1) got the save as he pitched one inning in the three batters he faced.
Jim Ploeger, the UAPB starter went seven and two-third innings, allowing four hits, two earned runs and striking out 5 in the 29 batters he faced.
Zach Moreau (3-3) received the loss for GSU as he pitched eight innings allowing eight hits, three earned runs and striking out two in the 35 batters he faced.
UAPB will close out their series against Grambling State in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 20 at 12 p.m. at the Torii Hunter Baseball, Softball and Little League Complex.
