PINE BLUFF, Ark. (April 15) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Baseball team picked a pair of nonconference wins today over Jarvis Christian College as the Golden Lions won game one, 8-3 and scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth to win game two, 6-2, here Tuesday, afternoon at the Torii Hunter Baseball, Softball and Little League Complex.
In game one, UAPB out hit JCC, 10-5.
The Golden Lions were led by
Vladimir Gomez, who recorded two hits in four at-bats and driving one run, while Chris Hernandez went two-for-four from the plate and scoring one run to lead the Bulldogs.
Jaron Gold (1-1) received the win for the Golden Lions as he pitched three innings in relief, allowing two hits, two earned runs and striking out three in the 12 batters he faced, whereas the
Skyler Henson the UAPB starter went three innings, allowing three hits, one earned runs and striking out one in the 12 batters he faced.
Jackson Carroll (0-1) received the loss for the Bulldogs as he pitched three innings in relief, allowing two hits, one earned run and striking out two in the 13 batters he faced, while Joshua Zaragoza, the JCC starter pitched two innings, allowing five hits and striking out three in the 13 batters he faced.
The Bulldogs grabbed the early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning as Shaquille Thomas scored on a Dennis Marini single.
UAPB reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the second inning with
Rashawn Tillman scoring on a JCC's infielder's error. Then a double steal by the Golden Lions scored
Jose Hernandez from third, followed by a Gomez ground out to the shortstop scoring
Mitch Bruckshaw.
JCC tied the contest at 3-3 on a Taylor Mowatt single up the middle scoring Tommy Muhleathaler, followed by a Marini sacrifice bunt scoring Chris Hernandez in the top of the fourth inning.
Hernandez broke the 3-3 tied in the bottom of the fourth as he scored on a wild pitch, making the score 4-3 in favor of the Golden Lions.
UAPB added four more runs as they plated two runs in the sixth inning and two runs in the seventh inning for the 8-3 finale.
In game two, the Golden Lions punched out eight hits, where the Bulldogs recorded 11 hits in the contest.
UAPB (14-22) was led by
Kirby Campbell as he finished the contest three-for-three from the plate.
JCC (28-15) was led by both Ernie Aguilera and Javion Randle as they both finished with three hits each to lead the Bulldogs.
Samuel Olson (2-2) received the win for the Golden Lions as he pitched two innings in relief, allowing four hits in the 10 batters he faced, while
Felix Baez Pool, the UAPB starters pitched three innings, allowing three hits, and striking out five in the 15 batters he faced.
Luke Thorton (0-1) received the loss for the Bulldogs as he gave up two hits, and two earned runs in the three batters he faced, while Marlon McDaniel the JCC started, toed the rubber for five innings, allowing five hits, and striking out one in the 19 batters he faced.
JCC jumped out to an early lead in top of the third inning as both Thomas and Javion Randle scored on an UAPB error.
The Golden Lions took advantage of three hits and two error Bulldogs' error to score six runs for the 6-2 win. Both
Mike Wieland and Hernandez scored on an
Isias Alcantar single up the middle, followed by a Jeremiah Figueroa bases load walk scoring
Joshua Cassidy.
Eddie Martinez would then hit into a fielder's choice scoring
Jordan Haas. Alcantar then scored on an infielder's throwing error. Figueroa scored the Golden Lions final run of the game on a Bruckshaw sacrifice fly to center field.
UAPB returns to action on Friday, April 18 against Grambling State in game one of a three-game series with the first pitched slated to thrown at 3 p.m.
