Box Score 2 PINE BLUFF, Ark. (March 29) - The University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff Baseball team split a doubleheader with Texas Southern as the Golden Lions won game one, 9-2 and the Tigers defeating UAPB, 5-2 in game two, here Saturday afternoon at the Torii Hunter Baseball / Softball Complex.
In game one, UAPB recorded nine hits, while TSU finished with seven.
Andre Davis led the Golden Lions from the plate as he went two-for-three and scoring two runs, while Luis Armas went two-for-two to lead the Tigers.
Jim Ploeger (3-2) picked up the win for UAPB as he pitched six scoreless innings and striking out nine in the 25 batters he faced, while Devin Kanorik (3-2) received the loss as he pitched three innings, allowing six hits, and seven earned runs in the 20 batters he faced.
UAPB grabbed the early 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first with a
Isias Alcantar double to right center scoring both Davis and
Tyler Oertle, followed by a Jordan Hass bases loaded hit-by-pitch scoring Alcantar and then both Jeremiah Figueroa and
Mike Wieland would score on a
Vladimir Gomez single to the right field.
The Golden Lions added to their lead in the bottom of the third with a pair of runs as Gomez singled to right center scoring
Kirby Campbell, followed by a
Rashawn Tillman triple to right field scoring Gomez, giving UAPB, 7-0 lead.
UAPB plated two more runs in the bottom of the seven to give the Golden Lions a 9-0 lead as Davis scored on a fielding error and with Campbell scoring on Hass single to first base.
TSU plated two run in the top of the ninth for the 9-2 finale as both Jag Gordaya and Tyler Edward scoring on a Samuel Terry double right field.
In game two, UAPB (8-18, 8-2 SWAC) recorded six hits with
Mitch Bruckshaw going two-for-four to lead the Golden Lions.
TSU (9-16, 6-3 SWAC) pounded out 10 hits in the contest with Zach Welz going three-for-four from the plate and driving in four runs t o lead the Tigers.
Darius McClelland(1-2) picked up the win for the Tigers as he pitched nine scoreless innings, allowing six hits, and striking out six in the 36 batters he faced, while Mike Ramirez (2-4) received the loss, allowing 10 hits, three earned runs and striking out three in the seven innings he pitched.
TSU grabbed the 2-0 lead in the top of the first as both Chris DeLeon and Marquis Webb scored on a Welz double to center field.
Alcantar cut TSU's lead to 2-1 as he scored on a Bruckshaw e single to right field in the bottom of the second inning.
TSU plated three more runs in the top of the third with Andrew Garza scoring on a Gordaya double right center, followed by a Welz single to right center scoring both Webb and Gordaya , giving the Tigers a 5-1 lead in the top of the seventh inning.
The Golden Lions scored their final run of the contest in the bottom of eighth on an Alcantar ground out to shortstop scoring Hernandez for the 5-2 finale.
UAPB will close out their three-game series with TSU on Sunday, March 30 in a 1 p.m. start at the Torii Hunter Baseball / Softball Little League Complex.
