Box Score Memphis, Tenn. (Nov. 29) – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women's basketball team defeated Lane Lady Dragons 83-54 for the Memphis HBCU Hoop Classic.
The Lady Lions climb to 2-3 on the season as the Lady Dragons fall to 0-6 overall.
The Lady Lions led the game all through the first half. With the score tied at 2-2 the Lady Lions exploded for 10-0 run that inflated the lead to 12-2, and they never looked back.
Jazmyne Victorian scored and assisted on half the plays during the 10-0 run. She would finish the afternoon with 15 points and 6 rebounds.
"Our defense was good for us," Third year Head Coach
Nate Kilbert said. "In the first half, we were making them force shots."
Mollie Campbell scored 10 of her 18 points in the opening frame and would record her first double-double of the season as she snatched 11 rebounds in the winning effort. The Lady Lions limited the Lady Dragons offense to shoot just 26 percent (9-34) in the first half while forcing 19 turnovers.
"I thought we attacked the rim well," Kilbert said. "I thought we rebound better than the past games to avoid any attempts of a comeback."
The Lady Lions would go into half time with a 45-29 lead.
Shami Goodman contributed in many different ways as she would finish strong in the second half with eight points, two rebounds, and four assists. The freshman best play came when she's came into the game making an impact, after
Cassidy Wright went down with an injury.
"As a team we worked harder in the second half
Kilbert said. "We have bench players that can be starters at anytime during the season."
UAPB shooters found more success in the second half. After shooting 43.9 percent from the field in the first half they would shoot 50 percent in the second.
Cassidy Wright scored nine points and grabbed three rebounds before getting injured and
Shami Goodman pitched in with 12 points to lead the Lady Lions bench which scored 39 points compared to 10 points the Lady Dragons got from its reserves.
Lane College Chloe Roberts led the way with 21 points; followed by Crystal Rayford with 12 points.
UAPB will travel to Stillwater Okla. Dec. 2, to battle Oklahoma State.
