BATON ROUGE, La. (Nov. 23) - The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Volleyball team season came to an end with a 3-0 (18-25, 21-25, 19-25) loss to Alabama State in the 2014 Southwestern Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament, here Sunday morning at Horace Moody Complex on the campus of Southern University.
Alabama State jumped out to a 12-7 lead in the first set, capped off by a Rachel Smith kill.
UAPB cut ASU's lead to 14-12 with a 5-2 run, capped off by an ASU attack error.
The Lady Hornets countered with a 8-2 run to take a 20-14 lead as ASU went on to win the set 25-18 to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
In the second set ASU jumped out to a 6-0 lead on an Amber Bennett kill.
The Lady Lions tied the set at 9-9 with a 9-3 run, capped off by an ASU ball handling error.
A kill by Smith gave the Lady Hornets a 17-12 lead, capping an 8-2 run by ASU.
UAPB cut the Lady Hornet's lead to 20-17 with a kill by
Whitney Harris, capping a 5-3 run by the Lady Lions.
ASU held to win the set 25-21 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
UAPB fell behind early in the third set as ASU jumped out to a 9-3.
The Lady Lions cut the Lady Hornet's lead to 16-13 on an
Ayanna Parker kill, but that would close as UAPB would get as ASU went on to win the set 25-18 for the 3-0 win.
UAPB (12-20) was led by Harris with seven kills, followed by Jones with six.
Jordan Foyer finished the contest with 1 assists, while
Courtney Brand led the team in digs with seven.
ASU(17-18) was paced by Smith with nine kills, followed by Myla Marshall with and Amber Bennett with six. Ellyn Jones led the team in assist with 16, while Jamie Coleman the team in assists with 12.
