Box Score Jackson State uses big run in fourth set to win match
BATON ROUGE, La. (Nov. 22) In their first match of the 2014 Southwestern Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (20-25, 18-25, 25-16, 23-25) here Saturday morning at Horace Moody Complex on the campus of Southern University.
In the first set, UAPB tied the set 7-7 on a JSU service error, capping a 3-0 run by Lady Lions.
UAPB tied the set once more at 15-15 with a kill by
Whitney Harris as JSU went on to win the first set 25-20 to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
JSU jumped out to an 11-4 lead in the second set on a kill by Alexsis Ford. JSU extended their lead to 20-9 on a Taija Thomas kill.
But the Lady Lions would rally as they outscored JSU 8-5 as the Lady Tigers held on for the 25-18 win, giving JSU a 2-0 lead in the match.
JSU jumped out to an 8-5 lead in the third set.
UAPB tied the set at 10-10 on a JSU attack error.
The Lady Lions finished the set with a 15-6 run to win the set 25-16 to cut JSU's lead in the match to 2-1.
In the fourth set, JSU jumped out to a 7-4 lead on a Ford kill.
UAPB took a 10-8 lead with a 6-1 run on a JSU attack error. The Lady Lions would then extend their lead to 19-12 on a
Kayla Dowdell kill, capping a 9-4 run by the Lady Lions.
But JSU would rally as they used a 13-4 run to win the win the set 25-23 and the match 3-1.
UAPB (10-19) was paced by Jones with a team high 12 kills, followed by
Whitney Harris with nine.
Jordan Foyer led the Lady Lions in assists with 37, while
Courtney Brand led the team in digs with 12.
JSU(10-19) was led by Thomas with 14 kills and 15 digs, followed by Mikayla Rolle with 13, while Jenna Siddiqui led the team in assists with 44.
With the loss, UAPB advances into the loser brackets and will face Alcorn State in an elimination game.
